AfterShokz Sportz M2 was originally designed in 2001 for military field soldiers to stay in touch with one another while also being aware of their surroundings. The open-ear headphones rely on a simple ‘bone conduction’ mechanism. Instead of transmitting sound energy through the ear canal, these wrap-around AfterShokz Sportz M2 headphones sit comfortably on your cheekbone, just in front of your ear, and transmit sound into the inner ear via bone conduction technology.

The headphones have a sleek design with an around-the-neck plastic band connecting both the buds and a cable leading to a battery pack that connects to a phone or music player. A microphone, volume control, and a power button are also included in the battery box. The improved AfterShokz Sportz M2 version now available on the market is specifically designed for runners and cyclists who want to listen to their favourite music while remaining environmentally conscious.

However, the sound quality is not as good as with closed-ear headphones. Bass and treble are not clearly audible, and anyone nearby can hear whatever you’re listening to. As a result, the AfterShokz Sportz M2 is not suitable for use in a quiet environment where others may be disturbed.

Just ordered the Sportz 2. The same design minus the mic. Rode it today on my way to work and was very impressed on how well the sound is.

It’s also true that the sound quality is simply not as good as decent earbuds, but the fact that they keep your ears open make them worth it. Oh, and they’re real comfortable. My ears used to ache from earbuds all day.

Besides the key fact of allowing you to hear what’s going on around you, they’re the only headphones I’ve tried that don’t fall off.

My first reason for loving them is comfort. No headaches from these! The second is being able to still hear my baby monitor.
